What's the best way to get to Negril?
LICENSED TAXI SERVICE: These taxis operate with RED PLATES. They are friendly and knowledgeable. The rates are pre-determined between on location and another, but can also be negotiable.
RENT A CAR: If you are the independent type, you might be planning to
rent a car.
Before you decide for sure--consider that you'll need to drive on the left-hand side of the road. Roads are narrow and often winding. You'll need to be very cautious and watch out for the many pedestrians, cows, goats and dogs that frequent the roadsides. The speed limit is 30 MPH in towns and 50 MPH on highways. You'll need a valid driver's license (valid for 12 months). You must be at least 25 years of age and meet the local insurance regulations. Service stations are open daily and will only accept cash. BY BUS:
Local bus service also connects all villages, cities and towns. Buses are cheap, crowded, and a wonderful way to see some of the real Jamaica! Be sure to set aside ample time, as they make frequent stops enroute.
