A rental car in Jamaica is an exciting way to get around!

The Worlds Largest Map Store!

A rental car in Jamaica is an exciting way to get around and, for more adventurous travelers, driving Jamaica is one not to be missed. Others might want to rent a bike for a day trip around Negril, explore Jamaicas South Coast or take a trip high into the mountains. Maybe you'd prefer a scooter for quick and easy transportation around town.

As an alternative to a rental car in Jamaica, you can hire a friendly, informative, licensed taxi driver to take you out in the countryside for a full day. Our drivers are familiar with the local roads, attractions you'll want to see and will add a personal flair to your tour. You'll be able to stop and visit with everyday Jamaicans, try some local food and enjoy the "off the beaten track" experience without having to rent a car and driver yourself!

The two most popular day tours are: N. Coast to visit Dunn's River Falls & Nine Mile (birthplace of Bob Marley) or S. Coast to visit YS Falls and Black River Boat Safari.

Which ever way you go, before driving Jamaica you’ll want to know the rules --

*A driver’s license from your home country is required and you must be at least 21 years old to rent a car in Jamaica.
*Driving is on the left-hand side of the road with steering wheels on the right-hand side of the vehicle.
*Speed limits are 30 MPH (50 Km) in the built up areas and on the highways 50 MPH (80 Km) unless otherwise posted.
*Service stations are open daily and accept only cash!

With only a road map as your guide, you'll be free to explore Jamaica on your own terms.

Before you take off, I’d like to mention a few cautions for driving Jamaica -- The roads, especially in the country, can by bumpy with frequent potholes. In the larger cities and the areas mostly well-traveled by tourists are usually in good condition. Take your time getting used to driving on the left side of the road and drive with extra caution! Traffic will be fairly light in the country, but these roads are often frequented by livestock and locals. In Jamaica, drivers don’t hesitate to stop their vehicle in the middle of the road to have a conversation and honking horns is just their way of saying “hello”! Winding roads with frequent twists and turns can make your stomach turn.

The reward of taking a rental car in Jamaica is the freedom of exploring on your own to discover out of the way places and view the beautiful scenic vistas of the lush tropical mountainsides and Caribbean sea! For a rental car in Jamaica, as well as bikes and scooters you’ll need a driver’s license. You must be 25 years of age, post a deposit to meet insurance regulations (with cash, traveler’s checks or a major credit card). Note: Some rental agencies will accept drivers as young as 21 years old drivers with a major credit card in their name. It’s always best to check rates and reserve ahead of time. Rates will generally be lower away for car rentals located away from the airport. Some rental cars in Jamaica come with unlimited mileage, while others (with a lower per day fee) set a limit on mileage and charge for excess miles driven. Most Jamaica car rentals require a $500 US$ Deposit but will accept a credit card imprint. They might but a hold onto the funds (with your credit card) required to cover the deposit.

You can arrange an extra driver for an extra fee. Always go over the vehicle before signing a contract. You are looking to identify and make notes (with the rental agent) of any dents and scratches. Be sure to check for cigarette lighters and that all interior switches are present and working.
